ICC Probe Missions

Spoiler Alert!! This blog is also somewhat of a walk through all the ICC probe missions. If you wish to experience and explore these missions on your own I suggest a different blog or another link up top. Otherwise you have landed within the correct horizon.

To begin your ICC probe mission(s) you will open your scheduler by pressing "F1" on your keyboard. Then click on mG.Shceduler and accept the ICC probe mission. The two squiggly lines at the bottom will bring you back one screen to the .app menu, or you may simply press "F1" again after you click to accept the mission.

Next you will move to the console station at Port Olisar and choose your ship from the panel. From here proceed to the designated landing pad to enter the ship you selected. Lift off the landing pad gently from Port Olisar and while in landing mode accelerate away from the station into clear open space. Raise your landing gear and point the nose of your ship towards ICC Probe 849.

Now that you have accepted your ICC probe mission, it's time to use your jump drive to leave Port Olisar. You will now report to the probe. Upon arrival to ICC Probe 849 you will hear cartographer Tessa Banister on your comm. If your audio is bugged in game you may not hear the comm, but the probe mission will still update.

Now that your probe mission is updated you will be directed to an unidentified signal. Activate your jump drive again, point the nose of your ship directly at the unidentified signal and engage your jump drive.

You will arrive at 2904-UEE649. You will immediately notice the red flashing beacon in the distance. As you get closer pirates will jump to the area and you will be notified of their presence over your comm. If your in game audio is bugged you may not hear the comm but the pirates will still be in the vicinity. As of patch 2.5 alpha the pirates at 2904-UEE649 are often bugged and will accelerate away from your location resulting in no need to engage them. Where's the fun in that? Chase them down and make them go BOOM if you wish.

Now it's time to get your bearings straight. If you changed the direction of the ship to engage the pirates or perhaps an unfriendly player you've likely lost visibility of the beacon. If you are near you will hear the beacon beeping in the dark of space. The beep will either get stronger or weaker depending on your distance from its location. If you can't hear the signal at all I would suggest using "F4" to switch view to outside your ship until you see the red light of the beacon blinking again.

Line your ship up with the beacon and use "V" on your keyboard to choose your acceleration mode, then proceed. As you near the distress beacon I recommend if you have not already, to reduce your speed to 50km/hr in landing mode. Your landing gear doesn't have to be down but it's just easier to approach at a slower speed once you get close. Once you are close enough for comfort stop your ship completely and make sure it is still. Press and hold "F" on your keyboard to exit your pilot seat. It's time to EVA out of the ship and move through the harsh conditions of outer space to interact with the distress beacon.

Congratulations, you have successfully completed the first ICC probe mission rewarding you with 2500 EUC. The good news is there are more missions like it in other parts of deep space and if you keep accepting the ICC probe missions from your scheduler you will receive a new one.

Repeat the first few steps from earlier to open your scheduler and accept the new probe mission once it appears. The new ICC mission will appear in your scheduler anywhere from immediately to a minute or 2 after completing one.

The next mission will take you to 2909-UEE831. This is a rescue mission, pirates will be attacking a civilian ship and it will be up to you to intercept their attack, divert their fire and destroy them before they can destroy the friendly vessel.

By now you get the idea on how to accept missions, where to find them and what you get for completing them. Don't forget to return to ICC Probe 849 after accepting each probe mission. You will need to report to Tessa Banister to get a mission update giving you the jump point to each new unidentified signal.

The next mission will take you to 2910-UEE217. The signal will be off in the distance, ignore it's specific location when you first drop out of the jump and head straight for the asteroids. This is another EVA mission, there will be pirates. Remember that 2 pirate ships spawn for each player that enters the area so if you are bringing friends along make sure you have the ship to back you up for those extra weapons that will surely be trained on you.

TIP: Before proceeding to the next mission if you haven't already, now may be a good time to check your ammunition count, ship damage and remaining quantum fuel.

No one wants to get stranded in the dead of space in the middle of a mission. Also if your ship is outfitted with a missile pylon and you don't have any missiles left for the fight ahead you may be left dumbfounded when you go to lock on a target with one. Better to have one and not need it then to need it and not have it. You can repair, refuel and restock at any CryAstro repair station.

Alternatively if you do not wish to spend the UEC on expensive refueling and restocking you can simply self destruct or suicide by pressing right "ALT" + "BACKSPACE" on your keyboard. If you are at the pilots seat your ship will self destruct and explode. If you are EVA or on foot your character will simply just die, both options spawning you back at either Grim Hex or Port Olisar as of alpha patch 2.5. If you destroy the ship you can wait a few minutes and spawn a new one for free at the station you spawned at. If you were EVA or on foot your old ship will still be floating in space many light years away and you may simply spawn a new one without the wait.

The next ICC probe mission will direct you to 2913-UEE548 where you will encounter pirates attacking an NPC ship, the RSI Constellation Andromeda. That's right, you guessed it, another dog fight against lousy stinking pirates. (figure of speech, actual pirates are in no way lousy but they do sometimes stink) Destroy, be the hero and accept the next mission.

2913-UEE620 will be the 5th ICC Probe mission. This one as of alpha patch 2.5 will be a civilian rescue. A small ship will be under attack and it will be up to you to save the day. The ships and what you find at each jump have changed from patch to patch. For example we never used to see NPC pirates rolling around the universe in a Cutlass prior to 2.5.

TIP: The non player pirates you encounter won't always be packing the same heat. The weapons and ships will be different from time to time making the bits they blow off your ship range from nothing to your imminent destruction in just a couple of hits. Be ready for anything.

2921-CRU324 is the next ICC Probe mission you will accept. Two words, distress bacon. The beacon will be inside the large cluster directly in front of you as you exit the jump, fairly straight forward. Arrive, blow up all the enemy ships as you approach, EVA and use the flight recorder in the wreckage.

2928-CRU716 will drop you out of quantum at a massive asteroid cluster. In fact next to Yela this will be the largest cluster you will encounter as of alpha patch 2.5. This one will probably be the most difficult for people to locate as the unidentified signal is misleading to the actual location. You may spend an hour out here and not stumble on it. There are different ways to approach this distress beacon. This is a ship wreckage not a rescue mission so it's safe to take your time. There are different ways to approach the beacon and find it successfully. The easiest way is to approach the asteroid cluster from ICC Probe 849. If you jump to 2928-CRU716 from the probe and fly directly towards the center of the cluster, all the way to the far edge past where the distress beacon appears to be when you first arrive, you will find the beacon successfully. Another way to easily find the beacon is to take a left when you first arrive, head towards the first largest asteroid and fly to it. When you get to it stop, turn the nose of your ship right and look for the next largest asteroid, fly to it and this is where the beacon will be. Think of it as a giant U shape or a horse shoe shape.

2930-CRU983 is the final ICC probe mission as of alpha version 2.5. This one is a large imperial wreckage. There used to be a small fleet of 7 Vanduul ships that would spawn here when you activated the beacon in alpha version 2.4. When the 2.5 patch went live they stopped spawning here. Not sure if this was a bug or if it was intended for some reason but the wreckage will be safe for you to explore.

TIP: When you complete each ICC probe mission the jump point remains active for the duration of your game play session. This means if you wish to return freely later for some salvage or exploration you can do so without going through all the missions again. If you crash, quit or logout you will have to complete the missions again to activate the jump points again.
